My earliest memories of writing trace back to the soft clatter of keys on my dad’s old typewriter, a heavy, ink-ribboned relic from a forgotten world, that became a toy as my family welcomed the Commodore, one of the early personal desktops. I was about nine, going on ten when I crafted my very first short story with the kind of wide-eyed imagination only childhood can conjure.
In those early years, I wrote mostly for myself. I filled notebooks with poems, stories, ideas, never really thinking they’d go beyond my own writing journal. It wasn’t until high school that I was encouraged to submit my work for publication. Lacking the courage to share the spotlight, I shared my work anonymously. I still remember the surreal feeling of seeing my words in print, though at the time, I didn't seriously consider it a calling even when one of my poems was noticed by the Poetry Foundation.
Then came the pandemic, a collective pause that invited reflection. With time to look inward, I began sifting through old pieces, fragments of thoughts, half-finished verses, and quiet observations. What started as a personal rediscovery soon grew into a body of work. I’m now revisiting these pieces, adding new perspectives, and giving myself permission to experiment more deeply—to try new forms, to take risks, and to be honest.
Writing, for me, has become both a return and a revelation. It’s a journey that began with childhood imagination and now moves forward with intention, growth, and an openness to the adventures that come next.
